Supporting men through farming and community

Every Week
Our sessions operate weekly, encouraging engagement through activities like animal care and light exercise, enhancing overall mental and physical health.

About us
Men at the Farm provides a safe, welcoming, farm-based environment for men experiencing challenges to their mental or physical health. Through shared, practical activities and regular weekly sessions, we create opportunities for companionship, purpose and meaningful contribution. We run a three hour session every Wednesday on our farm, based just outside of Gillingham, Dorset.
Many of the men who attend are living with conditions such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease, which can lead to isolation, reduced mobility and loss of confidence. Our sessions are built around purposeful farm work — caring for animals, light practical tasks and hands-on projects — encouraging physical movement, cognitive engagement and peer connection in a natural, supportive setting.
Participants are not passive recipients of care; they are active contributors. The farm offers space, routine and real tasks that foster dignity, confidence and renewed self-worth.
Our work also provides reliable weekly respite for carers, supporting family wellbeing alongside the men themselves.
Established in 2025, Men at the Farm is building a practical, community-based initiative where men can feel valued, capable and connected.
Our work
Men at the Farm runs weekly Wednesday morning sessions on a working farm, providing structured, practical activity for men experiencing challenges to their mental or physical health.
Each three-hour session is built around purposeful, hands-on tasks. These include feeding and caring for animals, light farm duties, and simple woodworking projects using hand tools. Activities are adapted to individual ability, encouraging safe movement, coordination and confidence.
Our sessions are designed to promote:
-
Meaningful activity and routine
-
Physical mobility and strength
-
Cognitive engagement through practical tasks
-
Conversation, humour and peer companionship
-
A sense of contribution and usefulness
